AFRICAN SDG FORUM

The African Forum for the Sustainable Development Goals (African SDG Forum) is a regional networking and capacity building initiative uniting our members, practitioners and key stakeholders for realising sustainable development in local communities in Africa. Pioneered and administered by ASFIN, the Forum aims to become an influential regional platform mobilising private capital and corporate leadership for practical solutions to realise sustainable development in local communities in Africa.

It brings together development NGOs, DFIs, public and private corporations, foundations, policymakers, investors and development practitioners and researchers committed to sustainable development in Africa. The Forum speaks with a unique voice of regional action and global solidarity to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Africa through providing a dynamic, open discussion platform to participate in decision making processes.

The Forum’s works include strategic alliance building and the exchange of communication between members and those concerned with global, regional and local development, and sharing information, best practices, analysis and experiences in the SDGs among its members and other stakeholders at national, regional and international level.

The Forum’s aim is to improve the performance of members and corporate organisations through strategic alliance building, networking, training, advocacy and capacity building. The Forum, in all its operations, is guided by the principles established in the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development’s Political Declaration.

Mission Statement 

The Forum’s principal mission is “to build a strategic alliance of corporate investors and development actors for achieving the SDGs, sustainability principles and actions, and promoting ideas that promote sustainable development across Africa.”

In pursuit of this mission, the Forum institutes in-depth policy analysis, regional and international exchange programmes, advocacy, public-policy debates, and promotes corporate activism to create and strengthen a stronger linkage between sustainable development, environmental protection, good corporate governance, and corporate social responsibility.

Our Corporate Vision

The Forum’s corporate vision is “to become an active platform for investors, DFIs, corporate institutions, policymakers and other stakeholders to work together to promote sustainable development in line with universally accepted principles and best practices.”

Our Objectives

The fundamental objectives are to: 

• Promote the role of members, investors and corporate organisations in realising sustainable development in African communities;
• Strengthen the capacity of practitioners, organisations and key stakeholders in realising the SDGs in Africa;
• Raise public awareness of investors and corporate organisations on the sustainable development goals (SDGs);
• Raise awareness on the challenges facing sustainable development in local societies;
• Advocate for strong global political, business and community leadership and commitment to sustainable development in local societies; 
• Advocate for resources for the realisation of sustainable development in local communities.
